[Part-books], [between 1622 and 1624?].

Five part-books, probably from early 17th-century France, with some pieces dated 1622-1624, containing motets for 8 to 12 voices, arranged for superius, contratenor, tenor, and bassus. Several of the songs are dedicated to St. Ignatius, and may have been part of a Jesuit liturgy.

In 1534 Ignatius of Loyola, a Basque and former soldier, met in Paris with six companions to take a private vow of poverty and one to place themselves at the disposition of the pope. On September 27, 1540, Paul III issued the bull Regimini militantis ecclesiae, canonically establishing the Society of Jesus.
